Summer Reading Contest Winners

Yesterday, we hosted 12 elementary students at the Capitol for my 2014 “Be a Senator for a Day” reading contest. The winners were selected from over 300 entries we received from students who completed their local library’s summer reading program. While in Lansing they were treated to a pizza lunch, a tour of the Capitol Building, a mock swearing-in as “Junior Senators” and a mock committee hearing about a hypothetical bill to require school uniforms. Our local libraries do a great job with these summer reading programs, and I’m pleased to partner with them on this fun contest to promote a lifetime of reading.

Vets Get Their Own 2-1-1 Phone Line Under New State Partnership

Are you a veteran? If so, there is a new help line to get you connected to services you could be entitled to.

The phone number, 1-800-MICH-VET will work in the same way as the traditional 2-1-1 line. This line was made possible by a partnership of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) and the Michigan 211 system.
