Fall is upon us! School is starting back up, the weather is cooler, and deer hunting season is right around the corner. I appreciate the opportunity to update you on the work being done at the State Capitol. It is a privilege to represent you in the Michigan Senate.

Hunting season

Whether you hunt deer, turkey, waterfowl or small game, Michigan offers some of the finest hunting opportunities around. Sportsmen all over the state enjoy our bountiful resources and rich hunting tradition.

Be sure to visit my website to check out a recent mailer that explores hunting and changing regulations that you should be aware of. I am committed to protecting our hunting rights and heritage. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Student Privacy Act

Student privacy is a growing area of concern as education delivery moves more and more into a digital realm and the ability to collect, store and share vast amounts of data becomes easier every day. Student data is among some of the most sensitive information that should be protected. In our new digital era, schools outsource their basic functions more than ever – everything from books and tests and attendance records to academic programs and actual student work.

I’ve introduced Senate Bill 33 to help protect your child. This bill has passed out of the Senate Education Committee, and I expect the full Senate to take it up soon.

Events around the district

4-HIt’s been a whirlwind summer traveling around the district for office hours everywhere from New Baltimore to Bad Axe and all the great summer fairs and festivals. We've got so many talented 4-H kids across Northern Macomb and the Thumb, and I was honored to participate with them and their families at the Huron Community Fair, Sanilac County 4-H Fair, St. Clair County 4-H Fair and the Armada Fair.

A great pleasure of this job is also celebrating milestones such as the Co-Op Elevator’s 100th anniversary and Sanilac County Drain Commissioner Greg Alexander being named volunteer of the year for the Sanilac County Farm Bureau.
