The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Regional Body recently recommended approval of the Waukesha, Wisconsin request to tap into Lake Michigan. This recommendation is pending approval from the Great Lakes Compact Council, the governors and provincial premiers who share the Great Lakes. April Economic News Positive
Michigan’s April unemployment rate held steady at 4.8 percent, once again below the national average! This marks the fourth month in a row that the jobless rate remained below 5 percent. As your voice in Lansing, I’m committed to policies that get government out of the way so small business and other job providers can continue to drive Michigan’s economic recovery.
Annual Budget Process Underway
The State Senate has approved a balanced budget ahead of schedule for the sixth year in a row. Our budget plan prioritizes education and public safety while limiting the growth of state government. As part of the budget process, the Senate, House and Governor’s office will iron out differences and produce a final state budget. I will keep you posted on the progress.
Free Fishing Weekend
Michigan’s annual Summer Free Fishing Weekend is the perfect opportunity to introduce family and friends to this great outdoor activity. All fishing license fees are waived for two days on June 11 and 12, 2016. All fishing regulations still apply.
