In the District

The month of September has been busy around the 28thSenate District, and I have had the pleasure of attending several exciting events and meeting with many of you individually in and around our community. Serving you is a great honor and I encourage you to contact me with any state related issues you may have.

  • On September 8thI had the pleasure of joining Representative Afendoulis in presenting a State Tribute to Cathy Gnewkowski of Cathy's Hallmark, in Plainfield Twp, for their 25 year anniversary. What an amazing achievement. I love this store! Here is to another 25 years, Cathy!
  • On September 17th, I had the honor of presenting State Tributes to Izaak Smith and Ryan Hazy. These two young men recently earned their Eagle Scout badges after years of hard work and both are leaders in the making.
  • On September 18thI attended the Veteran Volunteer Awards banquet with Representative Afendoulis where I had the pleasure of meeting many volunteers of the Grand Rapids Veterans Home. At this event, I had the opportunity to meet Betty Pike, Sonya VanValkenburg and David Zimmerman who were all honored for their services to the home. In 2017, they volunteered nearly 5,000 hours combined!
  • On September 20th, I attended Rockford Ambulances 50thanniversary where I had the pleasure of presenting them a State Tribute. Rockford Ambulance has served Northern Kent County night and day for many decades and is committed to responding to emergencies at a moment’s notice. Thank you to all the men and women at Rockford Ambulance who continue to make our home a safer place to live.
  • On September 21stI joined the Michael J. Bost Chapter 18 of the Vietnam Veterans of America for their Prisoner of War and Missing in Action Recognition Ceremony. On this solemn occasion I presented a State of Michigan Senate Proclamation recognizing September 21 as POW/MIA Recognition Day. May God bless those who gave up their freedom for ours, and may He be with those in uniform who are standing in harm's way today.
  • On September 23rdmy family and I attended the Finish the Mission Freedom Cruise where I got to meet many wonderful people and watch veterans escort the American Fallen Soldier Project to the Fifth Third Ballpark. Over the years, it has been an honor of mine to volunteer as a Board member with the “Finish the Mission” Veterans Relief Fund working to make West Michigan the most veteran friendly community in the nation. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s freedom cruise possible.
If you want more information, or would like to invite me to your event, please contact my office.
