In The District

The month of August was busy around the 28th Senate District, and I had the pleasure of attending several exciting events and meeting with many of you individually in and around our community. Serving you is a great honor and I encourage you to contact me with any state related issues you may have.

•    In August I visited the Kent County Youth Fair Auction where I met members of our community’s next generation of agricultural leaders. Youth fair participants show tremendous commitment and dedication in raising their livestock, all while learning the skills of entrepreneurship, philanthropy and the many benefits of hard work. Thank you to all the participants, volunteers and families who made this event possible.

•    On August 24th, I was joined by Representative Brann for office hours at the Byron Family Restaurant. During our office hours I met with several of you to address your concerns and listen to your ideas on how to help our state move forward. If you were not able to attend last week’s office hours, please continue following my e-news for updates on my next office hours and more.

•    Earlier that day I participated in an Agricultural Producer Conservation Practice Field Day and Bus Tour where I met with local farmers throughout our community. We were joined on the tour by members of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Michigan State University Extension and local soil scientists. I spent the morning learning how our farmers make the most use out of their land and the money saving conservation practices they utilize to pass on savings to their customers.

•    I had the honor of presenting the West Michigan Whitecaps with a special tribute to commemorate their 25th anniversary as a ball club here in West Michigan. Together with Representative Afendoulis and hundreds of fans from across our community, we celebrated this special milestone and cheered on our Whitecaps as they took the field. Here is to another 25 successful years!
