Christmas in July!

The search is underway to find the 2017 state Christmas Tree! The tree will be displayed in front of the Michigan Capitol building and featured as part of Lansing’s holiday festivities.

In the last 30 years, trees have come from locations across the state — from private yards to public land near highways and forests. To be considered, a tree must be a spruce or fir, at least 55 feet tall, within easy access of a road with no interference from wires and available at no cost.
Nominations are requested by July 30, 2017. Anyone nominating a tree should send their name, phone number, a photo of the tree and information about its size and location to ChristmasTree@michigan.gov.

There is no reason that the tree couldn’t come from a resident of Branch, Hillsdale, or Jackson County. Let the search begin!

M-124 Update – Thank You Local Leaders

Thanks to the hard work of your local leaders and Jackson transportation office, M-124 improvement planning has begun in Jackson County.

Officials in Columbia Township, Norvell Township, and Brooklyn Village have been coordinating with our office and the local MDOT service center to improve a large section of M-124.

At a recent meeting it was stated that the short‐term goal for M‐124 is to install additional delineators, chevrons, and bike lane signs.

In the future the goal would be for a further fix to this stretch of road the next time there’s opportunity to affect that portion of the budget or combine it with another project.

Listening to the input of residents has been a valuable part of this process.

THANK YOU to the local officials, Jackson and state MDOT teams, and residents who have worked together selflessly towards an improvement for this road.

District Update: Tommy’s Hot Dogs
Re-opens in Jackson

Tommy's Hot Dogs is back in business in Jackson!

The treasured location at 510 Detroit St., Jackson that's been called "Jackson's most widely unknown local landmark" reopened Monday, July 24, after a two-year hiatus. But instead of Tommy Boadgieff's hot dog cart under a green tarp, customers now will find a new kitchen building with a walk-up window. Tommy's Hot Dogs has been around since 1989 and we are happy to see it back. His menu includes the Taco Dog, Nancy Dog, Tiger Dog and the Diane Special.

Currently, Tommy's is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Welcome back to the community!
