Robertson supports bills to modernize campaign fundingMichigan should be a leader in accountability when it comes to elections.
I recently supported common sense reform that promotes greater transparency in how campaigns are funded. The legislation would require more campaign finance reports to be submitted electronically, ensuring more opportunity for public scrutiny and review. Along with improved transparency, more frequent reporting would empower voters with more timely information.
The bills would also update campaign contribution limits, including increasing individual donor limits for the first time in nearly 25 years. The proposed new limits are roughly half of what they would have been if the original campaign finance laws had been indexed to inflation.
Be prepared for winter driving conditionsWinter officially begins on Dec. 21 this year but winter weather often gets a head start in Michigan!
Before heading out, motorists can check the Michigan State Police Winter Travel Advisory. The service provides road conditions for the state's freeways and trunk lines, which are the first to be cleared during winter weather. It is updated twice a day or as information concerning travel conditions is received. Find it at www.michigan.gov/roadconditions or call the hotline at 1-800-381-8477.
The State Police also caution motorists that driving too fast for road conditions is the number one cause of traffic crashes during winter weather.
Pure Michigan Hunt - the hunt of a lifetimeHunters, there's still time to apply for the special Pure Michigan Hunt. The hunt package provides the opportunity to obtain licenses for elk, bear, antlerless deer and turkey, along with first selection of hunting sites during the reserved hunt period at any managed waterfowl area. In addition, each winner receives a fantastic prize package.
The $4 applications are available at all license agent locations and online. Hunters can apply as many times as they wish until Dec. 31. Three lucky hunters will be selected by a random drawing in January 2014. Find more information at www.michigan.gov/puremichiganhunt.
